The portrait of the artist Monterey
Mallorca

Mallorca, Formentor and Pollensa,

the colors of the Mediterranean sea, the source of her inspiration.

The Eternal Artist,  Magician of Colors

When in the fall of 1954, Henri MATISSE et André DERAIN left our world, MONTEREY felt as orphaned of these two wonderful artists who inspired all her works for over 60 years.

Of French father and mother Yugoslav, she was first trained as a jurist. Fashion designer for decades, colors, materials and designs have no secrets for her. An approach to aesthetics that finds its nobility in the painting to which she has devoted herself for years. Her paintings reflect her intricate personality where mingle the rigor of her training and the exuberance of her Slavic origins.

A feast of color where warm harmonies evoke a world of joy and pleasure where the woman is very present. Each year, the artist makes long stays in Mallorca, where she plunges into the magic of the lights of the South. This island, famous for the amount of artists that live there, has already successfully hosted several Monterey exhibitions.

Strongly influenced by the movement Nabi, Matisse and Derain, it seems that the artist adopts an approach that goes to the simplification of the lines, perhaps memory of a stay in the Far East ...

Intense colors, laid flat, give a strong decorative value. They sing or collide, creating a hedonic universe tinged with sweet nostalgia.

Monterey does not wish to deliver a message or to free herself by her painting. Her goal: to bring happiness and beauty. She adopts this sentence of Matisse: "What I dream: an art of balance, purity, tranquility, without worrying subject, which is for every man, a cerebral calmant ..."

She has been painting all her life for private buyers and collectors, only. Illuminating the decor of their residences with her works of light, color and elegance.
